Alliander accelerates business transformation with McCoy

In just 10 years, the energy market will undergo a change that should actually take 40 years. The energy transition demands speed from Alliander, one of the largest network companies in the country. So the company set up a business transformation programme under the noteworthy moniker #Simplification. Simply McCoy is our motto for a reason, so we joined forces to simplify processes. The first implementation went live at the end of June. 

First the basics, then the speed

Energy transition requires top-tier performance from Alliander, and that's how they're approaching it. That means getting the basic processes in order first, then accelerating from there. After all, you can't win the Tour de France without solid basic fitness, nutrition, and rest. And equally important: state-of-the-art technology. Meeting the strategic challenges of the future with old IT solutions? That's like starting the Tour on an old bike: you've got no chance. 

Back to the standard

You can't snag the yellow jersey in Paris on your own. With that in mind, Alliander started looking for a partner to make the programme a success. They had worked with McCoy since 2015 on simplifying various processes, and we shared their vision that IT should strengthen the business. This again made us a natural partner for this strategic business transformation. A key pillar in the programme is returning to standard, state-of-the-art SAP systems in the cloud. That would make Alliander more agile and faster, and reduce operational costs; a crucial foundation for the challenging energy transition.

#Simplification in finance, procurement, and warehouse management

Currently, Alliander and McCoy are working together on three projects within the #Simplification programme:

• SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM). In April 2021, Liander commissioned a new distribution centre in Apeldoorn-Noord. Thanks to the standardised SAP EWM solution, Alliander has real-time insight into product status and can provide the best service to customers and projects.

• SAP S/4HANA Central Finance (CFIN). Riding and winning stages requires the right infrastructure. At Alliander, CFIN is paving the way for the transition to S/4HANA. We also worked together to explore future consolidation processes. We've been racing at top speed towards the finish line since May 2021.

• SAP Ariba Contracts. The new processes for contract management that went live in June 2021 form the foundation for a total procurement transformation. SAP S/4HANA will soon act as the engine block helping SAP Ariba solutions drive an end-2-end procurement process.
